Every effort will be made to ensure that you are seen by the doctor of your choice.
If, however, you require an urgent appointment this may not always be possible and a triage appointment with the duty doctor will be made for you. In such cases, the duty doctor will phone you and may ask you to come in to the surgery.
Patients are asked not to present themselves at reception to see the duty doctor as the doctor may have been called out on an emergency.
All consultations with a doctor are by appointment. To make an appointment, either
Appointments for both locations can be made at either surgery and can be made up to two weeks in advance.
We also offer several appointments every day which can be booked 48 hours in advance (for example, patients can phone on a Tuesday for the possibility of an appointment on the Thursday) and, during busy holiday periods, a few next day and on-the-day appointments are available.
In addition, we offer appointments on a Monday evening at Bridge of Weir. These are designed for patients who are unable to attend the surgery during normal opening hours.
Patients are seen by pre-booked appointment only. Appointments are bookable up until the Friday of the previous week and are booked consecutively from 5.30pm until 8.15pm
Patients are asked to please note that your GP appointment is for ten minutes only and that an appointment is for one patient only. Your GP is unable to see another patient during this time.
Online booking is now available for doctors' appointments from any computer, tablet device, smartphone with internet access, SKY TV, Virgin TV or games consoles with internet access.

If you are registered to book appointments online, we now offer the ability to view and order your repeat medications using the same system. Please be aware that this facility is only for ordering medications which are on your repeat medication list. Please use the comments box at the bottom of the prescription ordering screen for entering where you wish to pick up the prescription and not for ordering items which do not appear on your repeat medication list.
Our current online prescription ordering service will continue to be available through our website for those not registered for online appointment booking.
If your illness prevents you attending the surgery, a home visit may be requested by phoning Bridge of Weir (not Houston) surgery on 01505 612555. Except in emergencies please phone before 10.00am.
The receptionist will ask for symptoms of your illness, as well as details of your address and telephone number.
Your doctor may phone you in the first instance and has the right to decide if a request for a home visit is justified and when the visit is to be made.
Lack of transport or convenience are not in themselves acceptable reasons for home visits.
You may prefer a telephone consultation with a doctor to discuss any issues of concern. In this case, you will be given an approximate time when the doctor will phone you back.
If you phone wishing to contact a particular doctor the reception staff will let you know when they may be available to take your call.
A large number of appointments are lost each month due to ‘did not attends’ ie the patient does not turn up for the appointment and does not contact the surgery in advance to cancel/change the appointment.
The effects of this are:
The practice therefore operates a strict DNA policy, a copy of which is on view in the reception areas.
The practice will register patients on a temporary basis if they are visiting the area, have an address while here, and are eligible for NHS treatment.
The form below must be completed in full and handed in to either surgery before an appointment can be made to see a clinician.

We have put together this guide which we hope patients will find helpful. It is available in leaflet form in both surgeries.
